Forward Science announced a partnership with dental service organization (DSO) Heartland Dental to bring PerioStom -- a U.S. Food and Drug Administration(FDA)-cleared, nondrug oral wound dressing -- to clinicians across Heartland's practices in 38 states.
PerioStom uses chitosan microspheres, a biocompatible polymer, to form a protective barrier in the periodontal pocket following procedures such as scaling and root planing. The product is designed to support gingival healing and improve patient comfort during recovery, according to Forward Science.
According to Robert J. Whitman, Forward Science's CEO, the collaboration helps clinicians treat gingival health earlier and effectively.
