Wash. dentist ordered to stop patient loyalty program

The Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner has issued a cease-and-desist order to a dentist who was selling a loyalty program membership to patients.

The dentist, David Ford, DDS, operates a private practice in Renton, WA, a suburb of Seattle. Dr. Ford allowed patients without traditional dental plans to pay $450 per year for a set number of services, including two cleanings and x-rays, according to the Office of the Insurance Commissioner.

On November 10, the office ordered Dr. Ford to stop his program, noting that the dentist did not have a valid license to sell or offer insurance in the state of Washington. Nearly 70 patients were part of the program.
