Electric vs. air-driven dental handpieces: Dr. Tom Giacobbi's thoughts

"This is a drill. And these are handpieces, and they come in two varieties: air-driven turbines and electric.

"In Europe, about 80% of the market is electric handpieces, and in North America, it's probably around 30%. However, electric handpieces are gaining market share by the day because electric handpieces provide consistent torque, a quieter operation, and, in my opinion, a smoother cut.

"If you haven't tried an electric handpiece in your practice, I encourage you to do so very soon. You won't go back. I can guarantee you that.

"Now let's get back to work."
