I love the expression, “If you take care of your team, they will take care of you.” I found this to be true in many dental team members that I have met who verbalize their commitment to the success of the practice and excellent care for patients.

Create a mission statement that gives the team a real purpose for coming to work. People now view work as an extension of their life, where they can experience satisfaction, camaraderie, and the opportunity to contribute and grow. The best way to create a purpose for the entire team is to establish a mission statement that becomes part of the practice culture. A mission statement is the long-term purpose of the practice, and everyone can rally around it.

Don’t forget to create a fun environment for the team. Creating fun at the practice can include surprises, such as bringing in lunch or giving out gift cards. Furthermore, we recommend that every three months, the practice hold an outside-the-office activity that gives the team a chance to relax and interact with each other. This almost always results in improved attitudes.
