Ortek Therapeutics has announced the category positioning of its BasicBites oral-care soft chews as "Daily Enamel Nutrition" -- a microbiome-based approach to everyday oral care support grounded in research from the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine.
The positioning places BasicBites between traditional oral care and functional confectionery, targeting patients who need daily enamel support beyond brushing and fluoride. Dental professionals most often recommend the product for patients experiencing dry mouth -- a common side effect of numerous medications, including GLP-1 drugs -- as well as those with elevated caries risk, frequent dietary acid exposure, and exposed root surfaces.
The technology centers on arginine bicarbonate and calcium carbonate. Arginine serves as a nutrient source for oral bacteria that produce alkali through the arginine deiminase system, helping neutralize plaque acids, support a healthier pH at the tooth surface, and enhance natural remineralization, according to Ortek. The formulation is designed to support the oral microbiome without killing bacteria, the company added.
BasicBites are available in chocolate and caramel flavors and are sugar free, gluten free, and dairy free, with 15 calories per chew. The recommended routine is one chew after brushing, morning and evening.
